Irlys Alencar Firmo Barreira (UFC)

Is Full Professor of Sociology at the Federal University of Ceará (Universidade Federal do Ceará – UFC), a 1B researcher at National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico – CNPq) and P.I. of the Research Group on Leadership, Representations and Political Practices at the CNPq’s Research Directory. She earned a doctorate from the University of São Paulo (Universidade de São Paulo – USP) and worked as a post-doctorate at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (Paris) and at the Institute of Social Sciences (Instituto de Ciências Sociais – ICS), University of Lisbon. Among other positions, she was president of the Brazilian Society of Sociology (Sociedade Brasileira de Sociologia – SBS) from 2012 to 2013. Her field of research, at the interface of anthropology, politics, and sociology, is centered around the following themes: city, politics, culture, gender and social movements.
