She is currently professor at the State University of Maranhão (UEMA), where she coordinates the Laboratory of Studies in Political Anthropology – LEAP. Karina is currently researching the technologies of mapping crime under a perspective of science studies. She wrote “Junto e Misturado: uma etnografia do PCC”, which had its English version published by the University of North Carolina Press under the title “Sharing This Walk: An Ethnography of Prison Life PCC in Brazil” (that won the and the APLA 2017 Book Prize), and “Proibido Roubar na Quebrada: Território, Lei e Hierarquia no PCC”.
