César Barreira is a Full Professor in the Social Sciences Department and Graduate Program in Sociology at the Federal University of Ceará (UFC). He received his Ph.D. in Sociology from the São Paulo University (1987) and was a postdoctoral researcher in the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, Paris (1990) and in the Social Sciences Institute, Lisbon (2008). He is a 1-A Fellow Researcher at CNPq (National Council for Scientific and Technological Development) and leads the Violence Studies Laboratory and the Advanced Studies College in UFC. His main research areas and publications are Sociology of Violence and Social Conflict, Public Security and Society, Power and Agrarian Social Processes, Conflict and Dispute over Water.
