Christine de Alencar Chaves (UNB)

Christine de Alencar Chaves is a Brazilian anthropologist, and professor at the Anthropology Department at the University of Brasília (UnB). Her research interests have been centered on the anthropology of politics with a focus on popular group’s political conceptions and practices. More recently, she has become interested in scrutinizing the intersection between politics and religion and its capacity for social mobilization of the affections, as well as its broader political effects as the process of organizing social protest. Christine builds her projects on an ethnographic basis which allows her to articulate both the use of the analytical qualities of rituals, and daily micro-events with the investigation of the social creative power that they are able to mobilize.
